Owner's Feelings After Adoption:
From the very beginning, I had a strong impulse to adopt, thinking: "A little brother/sister needs to come home!" Thus, I embarked on the path of adoption. I inquired at several adoption centers until I came across the shelter. After receiving their first response, I knew—this little one was waiting for me here!
April was very helpful in matching me with my current dog, a Chocolate (Tango). From the first moment I saw Pepper (the male dog), I wanted to bring him home. Of course, I had many concerns; I’m relatively small and worried about being able to handle him physically. Could I train two dogs at the same time? In the end, I put aside all my worries and took the plunge to bring him home.
The first two to three months of adjustment were quite challenging, but I am grateful that help came when I needed it! Many neighbors cheered me on after they learned of my adoption, gifting me a bed (thank you, Mochi’s owner) and fencing plus toys (thank you, Ginger’s owner). When Pepper first went to the dog park, the other dog owners welcomed him by putting their dogs on leashes to open the gate. One dog owner (thank you, Flower) even offered to walk Pepper during the adjustment period to help him and Tango adapt to going out together sooner. It was all very heartwarming.
Of course, during the adjustment period, there were moments when the two brothers had conflicts that made me feel like giving up. I couldn't understand the reasons behind their fights, which was very discouraging. Fortunately, I had a wonderful friend (biggest shout out to Ms. B) who helped me and the two pups understand the reasons for their conflicts through pet communication. After that, Tango and Pepper, along with myself, made adjustments, and everything started to run smoothly!
The entire process taught me that it's not just about having effective methods to train dogs; pet communication helped me understand that each dog is an independent being with different thoughts, just like children. As humans, we need to understand and respect them.
Adoption, while full of challenges, has added experiences and colors to my life.
P.S. Thank you to the shelter, and thank you, April, for always answering my calls despite being so busy!
